This afternoon, I joined with ovarian cancer survivor Sandie Keogler, her husband Ken and daughter Emily to present them with a New York State Proclamation declaring September Ovarian Cancer Awareness month. We also planted a tree on their front lawn as a symbol of hope and as a tribute to those who face this disease. We were also joined by Brittney Kessel from Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton’s office.

We had a great time walking door-to-door through Plainview with the 13th Assembly District's newest constituent, Mona Lisa the dog!

Assemblyman Charles Lavine is very pleased to report that New York is a winner of the federal Race to the Top education program grant. New York will be awarded $700 million. After an unsuccessful first round, Charles Lavine, and the State Assembly passed legislation that bolstered New York’s application for the second round. Without significant legislative intervention, New York would have no chance at earning federal funding. read more »
